Instructors
Marcin Polczyk
Founder & Head Coach at Academia Gorila, Poland
With 18 years of dedicated Jiu-Jitsu training and a 2nd-degree black belt, the founder of Academia Gorila stands as a prominent figure in European Jiu-Jitsu. As the head of one of Europe's strongest academies, they actively coach a competitive NoGi team and consistently work with top-tier European athletes, including names like Paweł Jaworski, Nikita Berkovic, and Max Arnold. For those visiting Rio who wish to train, the founder is eager to share their extensive knowledge and experience accumulated over nearly two decades in the sport.
During this event, Marcin will be your guide. When he first arrived in Rio in 2013, he spent nearly three weeks in the city, admitting to having made every conceivable "gringo mistake." He wasted a significant amount of money and felt he barely scratched the surface of Rio's true offerings. Since that initial visit, he has been returning to Rio for over 12 years. During this time, he's accumulated extensive experience, explored countless hidden gems, and forged strong friendships with local Jiu-Jitsu practitioners. He's learned the language, embraced the vibrant culture, and developed a unique, authentic way of experiencing the city that goes far beyond typical tourist spots. He promises visitors an opportunity to see things even most locals never get to experience. Over the past decade, he has guided almost 150 individuals from Poland, Germany, England, and across Europe on trips to Brazil. Many of these participants have returned for repeat visits, and feedback consistently describes the experience as "the trip of a lifetime." As the BJJ world is small, he encourages prospective travelers to "ask around."
Pawel Jaworski
ADCC EU Trials Winner, IBJJF World & EU Champion and CJI Contender
Known as the “wonder child” of Polish jiu-jitsu, Pawel has evolved into one of the most formidable fighters of his generation. With numerous World and European medals, Pawel is recognized not only for his elite competition achievements but also for his technical mastery, especially his signature reverse De la Riva guard, effective in both Gi and No-Gi. His attention to detail in training and sparring makes him an exceptional coach and athlete.
Location
Rio de Janeiro
Rio de Janeiro, known as the "Marvelous City," offers an unforgettable travel experience where breathtaking natural beauty meets vibrant urban culture. Visitors are captivated by iconic landmarks such as the towering Christ the Redeemer statue, offering panoramic views, and the majestic Sugarloaf Mountain, accessible by cable car for equally stunning vistas. The city's legendary beaches, including the lively Copacabana and chic Ipanema, invite relaxation and people-watching, while the rhythmic beats of samba pulse through bohemian neighborhoods like Lapa, particularly during its famed Carnival celebrations (typically late February/early March) or lively pub crawls. Beyond the beaches and samba, travelers can explore the lush urban rainforest of Tijuca National Park, wander through the colorful Selarón Steps, and discover historical sites and museums, making Rio a diverse and exhilarating destination year-round, though the spring months (September to November) offer pleasant weather and fewer crowds.
